When should kids see an orthodontist?
Has your child been to the orthodontist? Do you notice your child has crooked teeth, but think they are too young for braces? According to the American Association of Orthodontists, children should receive their first orthodontic checkup by age 7.
Why age 7? Your child’s permanent teeth are still erupting, so it is important to evaluate the spaces between teeth and address any problems early. Some permanent teeth have come in, but if any spacing issues arise, this can harm new teeth that are still erupting.
Early Treatment
Your child may not need treatment immediately, but early evaluation allows us to closely monitor your child’s development so we can create a plan as teeth continue to erupt and change. This helps us to create a healthy smile for your child early on that will carry into adulthood.
Through early evaluation and treatment, we can successfully correct overbites, underbites, crowding, and other issues that can cause greater problems later down the road.
